Star*Chip.

The first stage in the tuning process for all Mk3 vehicles, Star*Chip gives real benefits in all-round performance (especially noticeable in the mid-rev range). There are no down sides and a conspicuous power gain is achieved as well as smoother running, better throttle response and usually slightly better fuel economy when cruising. There are no special tuning requirements and servicing specifications remain unaltered. See our Star*Chip section for more details.

Star*Chip Plus.

Star*Chip plus is an effective and economical conversion only available for 4 Cylinder 8 Valve MK3's. It comprises a special version of the above Star*Chip conversion, a free flow air filter element and a replacement section of the exhaust pipe which fits between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter.
Our research revealed that the restrictive nature of the original pipe limited the power output. The new free-flow section has the effect of releasing that wasted power and the special Star*Chip ensures the correct ignition timing and fuelling requirements are maintained.

PLUS-PAC Conversion.

The Mk3 PLUS-PAC conversion is based around a unique camshaft design, developed in collaboration with Crane Cams of America, which is matched to specially modified software in the engine's Electronic Control Unit. A free flow, washable air filter element is also fitted to complete the package.
The cam profiles constitute the latest evolution in camshaft design. Valve overlaps are kept to a minimum, reducing the risk of raw hydrocarbons entering the exhaust, while the special ECU software ensures that the emission levels remain well within EC legal limits.
This conversion constitutes the greatest possible power increase available on a while-you-wait basis, taking just a few hours to fit and test.

SUPER PLUS-PAC.

Top of the range for the all-model conversions, the Super PLUS-PAC incorporates the cam, chip and air filter of the PLUS-PAC together with cylinder head inlet and exhaust ports reshaped using the latest techniques in surface finishing to assure fine atomisation of the fuel.
     In addition to this, larger valves are fitted to the 4 cylinder 2 litre 8 valve engines, increasing the top-end  mass -airflow, improving the performance even further!

To summarise the kits comprise:

  • Gasflowed cylinder head,
  • Sports camshafts,
  • Larger valves (4cyl/2L/8V only),
  • Specially selected valve springs (4cyl/2L/8V only),
  • Free flow, washable air filter element,
  • Specially revised engine management system software,
  • All necessary gaskets etc.

VR6 REC3000/3100.

This conversion represents the ultimate stage of tune but relates only to VR6 models. Not only do all the features of the Super PLUS-PAC apply, but the swept volume is increased from 2.8 to 3.0 litres (REC3000) for engines fitted to all models except the Corrado (which has a 2.9 litre engine as standard). In the case of the Corrado, kit RE3100 is applied, increasing the swept volume from 2.9 to 3.1 litres.
The increase in swept volume is achieved by the use of a longer stroke crankshaft. The original connecting rods are used and the extra stroke is compensated for by modifying the deck height of the pistons.

It is also possible to increase the swept volume of the 2.8 litre engines to 3.1 litres!  This is achieved by re-boring the cylinder block and fitting larger diameter pistons in addition to everything else and can be ordered under conversion number REC3100S.

To summarise the REC... kits comprise:

  • Long stroke crankshaft,
  • Modified pistons (oversized and modified for REC3100S only),
  • Re-bored cylinder block (REC3100S only),
  • Gasflowed cylinder head,
  • Polished valves,
  • Selected valve springs,
  • Sports camshafts,
  • Free flow, washable air filter element,
  • Specially revised engine management system software,
  • All necessary gaskets/expendables etc.
