170 Horsepower for the 1.8 litre MX5!

A Supercharger conversion for the 1.8 litre MX5/Miata has been developed by BBR in conjunction with GP Projects of Atlanta, Georgia  (1.6 litre version also available).

The conversion utilises a specially programmed version of BBR unique Interceptor 2000 (fitted directly into the car's ECU) to maintain the correct fuelling and ignition timing for maximum power and efficiency on boost.

The power output with the supercharger fitted is smooth and progressive, the amount of air mass pumped being virtually proportional to engine revs - up to cavitation of the supercharger rotors. This makes the car more 'friendly' to drive than turbo charged versions where the boost rises quite suddenly, relying on the wastegate to control pressure. The sound generated by the supercharger is also distinctly different to a turbo.

Power from the 1.8 litre engine is increased to approximately 170/175 BHP at 6,000rpm and the engine is still able to run on premium unleaded fuel!

Suspension
To complement the huge power increase, it is highly recommended that the suspension is also improved by fitting higher rate springs and dampers, plus a stiffer front anti-roll bar (we can suggest, obtain and fit a suitable combination). The car will then be more precisely controllable and a lot safer to drive "hard and fast".

WARNING:  There are supercharger kits on the market that, unlike ours, do not have correctly mapped fuel and ignition. Fuel is crudely enriched during the boost cycle by the use of a rising rate fuel pressure regulator - often needing a stronger fuel pump to cope - and the ignition timing retarded by as much as 8 degrees to avoid detonation. The resulting power output from these conversions is seriously impaired.
